Overview |
Deep Vein Medical has developed a proprietary and minimally-invasive implantable device to replace incompetent venous valves in the deep venous system of the legs. The Sail Valve™ product provides a rare opportunity to create a new market segment in treating patients with chronic venous insufficiency, venous stasis ulcers and patients with severe chronic edema. The Company is utilizing a capital efficient and market-centric strategy specifically tailored to mitigate risk and allow for timely and cost-effective value creation. Venous Disease CVI is a progressive disease where venous pressure is increased and return of blood to the heart from the legs is impaired due to valvular incompetence. CVI results in various pathologies including pain, swelling, edema, skin changes and recurring ulceration. The prognosis of venous ulcers is poor with delayed healing and recurrent ulceration being the norm. The importance of effective management of CVI is related to the prevalence and incidence of the disease and the socioeconomic impact of its more severe manifestations. The more severe cases of CVI with active or healed ulcers are seen in 1% of the population, with more than 50% requiring prolonged therapy lasting over a year. Current treatment modalities, including compressive leg garments, sclerotherapy and ablation, are predominantly palliative thereby underscoring the need for an endovascular curative approach.
